Taipei 101 – The Former Worlds Tallest Building

Looking at the lone tower soaring throughout Taipei’s skyline, it is quite easily to notice Taipei 101, which is the former worlds tallest building. The bamboo inspired landmark is located in the eastern end of Taipei city in which is one of the newer areas of Taipei. The Taipei 101 tower was the worlds tallest building, taking the title from its predecessor, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However in year 2010, the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, took the worlds tallest building title by eclipsing Taipei 101 by over 300 meters! Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei – Dedicated to One of Taiwan’s Greatest Heroes

Compared to the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial, the Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei is more down to earth and less flashy. The Memorial Hall is dedicated to Dr Sun Yat Sen, who is regarded as the revolutionary founding father of the People’s Republic of China (Mainland China), and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Even the communist government in Mainland China give full credit to Dr Sun Yat Sen as its founding father, as without Sun Yat Sen, there would have been no revolution to bring down the former Qing Dynasty in China. A Journey Thru Snake Alley and Surrounding Area – Taipei City

One of the oldest parts of Taipei city that has a distinctive character would be the area surrounding the infamous Snake Alley area near Longshan Temple. Here in the evening the area comes to life as a giant night market littered thru its many streets and alleyways. The area was once known as the red light district where people would venture to Snake Alley to get their fix on herbal tonics made with snake to supposedly give them that extra “man” boost (if you know what I mean). Nowadays however, the place has cleaned up significantly, and while you may not see the red lights anymore, the Snake Alley name still lives on… Here is a quick tour thru Snake Alley and the surrounding areas.
