There are many Taipei budget hotels within the vicinity of the downtown city area of Taipei, Taiwan. During my stay at Taipei city a few months back, I managed to stay at a very decent budget hotel that was clean, cheap, and in a very good location.
The Taipei budget hotel I stayed at was at Shin Shih Hotel, which is located near the Shuanglian MRT train station. In fact it was only 5 minutes walk away from that MRT station. Furthermore this MRT station was in a central location, which was 2 to 3 stops away from Taipei Main Station, and therefore was close to a lot of major sights in Taipei.

I paid about 62 USD per night at this hotel. For this price it was a steal! It included breakfast for two people (just a simple Taiwanese buffet style breakfast), free Internet connection in your room, and the television surprisingly was packed with a lot of decent channels, such as HBO and Discovery.
The room itself was well maintained, and very clean. It was a little bit small, but what more can you ask for on a budget hotel? The only drawback I found were the windows in the room. Although there is a window in your room, do not expect to see much sunlight from it. Oddly enough when you open the curtains all you see is a big concrete wall of the building beside that is only about 1 foot away from the window!
With all that being said, I still found it to be worth it, as for me all I needed was a place to have a decent night’s sleep. To me, I always look first for comfort and cleanliness in the room and out of all the Taipei budget hotels I researched, this one was on the top of my list.
