A trip to Singapore’s Chinatown is an unique experience, where past and present meet.  It was once an important enclave for new Chinese immigrants during the colonial times, where it was a centre of trade and commerce within the Chinese community.  However, as Singapore progressed and modernized, much of Chinatown’s old time charm was lost, making way for new shopping malls, and tourist attractions.  That being said, a stroll through its alleyways, there are still pockets that are reminiscent of its marvelous past.  Adding on to Zhu’s post on Singapore’s Chinatown of her first impression of the place, here is a more detailed look around the main market area of Singapore’s Chinatown. Malaysia is a vast country but a young country.  It may not have the long historical past of its neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Vietnam, but it is a country that is a melting pot of rich cultures.   It also showcases a diverse natural landscape filled with diverse plantation and wild life.   Chances are you will not have enough time to see all of Malaysia.  Nevertheless, even if you cannot experience it all, there are a few things I feel that you must at least try to experience, else you would not have really experienced Malaysia at all. 
 
Here is my top 10 recommended list of  things to do in Malaysia:
 

 1.  Trek up to the summit of Mount Kinabalu

 Situated in the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah, Mount Kinabalu is the world’s 20th tallest mountain.  The height at its summit is 4095m (13,435 ft) above sea level.  It is a relatively straight forward trek up to the summit without any special climbing gear needed.  Mount Kinabalu and its surrounding area is a protected nature reserve.   Read Full Article →
